Calculate GTIN-14
Which identifier
do I need?
Product, model or product group: each identifier serves a different purpose.
GTIN-14, Basic UDI-DI and Master UDI-DI
The Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) identifies a trade item. A GTIN-14 consists of 13 input digits and a calculated check digit. The Basic UDI-DI groups devices with shared essential characteristics at model level. For certain highly individualised devices, the Master UDI-DI serves as the UDI-DI. These identifiers are not interchangeable.
What does HIDRI mean?
HIDRI stands for Highly Individualised Device Registration Identifier. This GS1 implementation of the Master UDI-DI uses the GMN format with two check characters. The grouping reference contains at least one non-numeric character. The Application Identifier is (8014); it is not included in the check character calculation. This calculator supports the HIDRI variant, not the Made-to-Order GTIN variant.
GS1 Company Prefix or HIBC LIC?
For GS1, use your assigned numeric GS1 Company Prefix. HIBC uses a four-character Labeler Identification Code (LIC). The HIBC Global Model Identifier is the middle part of the Basic UDI-DI. The two leading plus signs are added automatically and included in the calculation.
What does the calculator check?
The calculator checks the supported format rules and calculates the check characters. It does not assign identifiers, verify licences or register identifiers with GS1, HIBCC or EUDAMED. Leading zeroes and letter case are preserved.
